# Analytics

> What the Performance tool shows, how fresh it is, and how it fits with Google Analytics if you use that too.

The **Performance** tool is your site's own analytics. No third-party script, nothing stored that identifies a visitor directly, and built around a few questions: how many people came, where from, what they read, whether they came back, and what AI assistants are doing with the site.

## The cards

| Card            | Shows                                                                                                                                                                 |
| --------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Overview** | Daily and monthly visits, clicks on tracked elements, enquiries, and a traffic curve against the previous period. The range switch (day, month, year, all) lives here |
| **Retention** | Pages per visit, how far people read, and how many came back |
| **Sources** | Where people came from: direct, search, social, referral, AI, and the top individual sources |
| **Geography** | A globe of countries and cities, plus who is on the site right now |
| **AI activity** | Which AI companies are reading the site, and which pages AI assistants fetched for real people |
| **Takeaways** | Four sentences: the best week, the deepest-read page, the most-clicked element, and the AI line |

<Note>
  **Comparisons are fair** A half-finished day is compared with half of the previous one, so it never reads as a drop.
</Note>

Campaign reporting is not here. It sits beside each campaign, in the Campaign tool's [funnel](/campaigns/funnel).

## How fresh it is

The dashboard updates every few minutes. The "on site now" count updates every half minute.

## Google Analytics

If you also use Google Analytics, put your measurement id under Settings, then Integrations. With **Require cookie consent** on, Google gets nothing until a visitor accepts.
